DUSON, La. (ENN) — Duson Police were in standoff last night after a suspect of shooting/attempted murder barricaded himself inside a mobile home.
Officers were called to a dispute between neighbors that escalated when the suspect, Karnell Thomas of Duson, armed himself with a handgun and fired multiple shots in the direction of and with the intent of killing two of his neighbors.
Upon officers arrival, Thomas retreated into his trailer as officers arrived. One of the victims of the shooting began busting out the windows of Thomas’ vehicle. After the victim was detained from vandalizing the vehicle, officers began to attempt to get Thomas to exit the trailer via a PA system.
Knowing he was armed, Duson authorities requested help from Lafayette and Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Offices.
The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s SWAT Team was called to assist and they were able to verify he was not inside the trailer.
Law Enforcement received a tip that Thomas was at his sister’s home on Kevin Drive. That tip lead officers to Thomas and he was arrested at about 1 a.m. Friday morning.
Investigation revealed that while police were attempting to detain the victim who was vandalizing the suspect’s car, Thomas exited through a side door and went to his sister’s home on Kevin Drive.
Karnell Thomas was arrested and charged with Attempted First Degree Murder and Resisting Arrest with Violence. He was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail. No bond has been set at this time.
