LPSO investigating apparent suicide attempt by a school resource officer

LAFAYETTE, La. (ENN) - Authorities in Lafayette have reported that deputies are looking into a apparent suicide attempt that involved a school resource officer.

Investigators were reportedly working near First Baptist Christian School this morning in relation to an off-campus incident involving a Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office School Resource Officer, according to the department.

The SRO allegedly shot himself, causing life-threatening wounds, according to the authorities. The deputy was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.
