LPD: person intentionally steps in road, hit by 18-wheeler in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. (ENN) — A pedestrian has died after being struck by an 18-wheeler on Sunday morning, police say.

Lafayette Police say an 18-wheeler was traveling Southbound on I-49 near the Gloria Switch Overpass.

Thats when a pedestrian was standing on the shoulder of I-49 and intentionally stepped into the roadway, directly in front of the 18-wheeler, leading to them getting struck by the vehicle.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The pedestrian has died as a result of the injuries sustained after being struck by the 18-wheeler.
