Lafayette officer struck by drunk driver on Wednesday evening

LAFAYETTE, La. (ENN) — A Lafayette motorcycle officer was struck from behind by a vehicle while conducting an escort.


According to police, the officer was blocking the entrance ramp onto I-49 at Gloria Switch Road when he was hit by the vehicle.


The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment where he is listed in “stable but serious condition.”


The driver was taken into custody and was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated (1st offense), felony hit and run driving, first degree vehicular negligent injuring, and careless operation.


Louisiana State Police is now handling the investigation, authorities say.
