WASHINGTON, D.C. (ENN) — President Biden announced Thursday that he will suspend his 2024 re-election campaign amid mounting pressure from his Democratic colleagues on Capitol Hill, top donors and Hollywood stars after a disastrous debate performance last month.
In a letter, Biden states it has been the “greatest honor” of his life to serve as President. “I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for my to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” the letter states.
Biden says he will speak more about his decision in an address to the Nation later this week. Now, democrats are scrambling to find another candidate to replace Biden.
