Acadia Parish School Board implementing metal detectors in public schools

CROWLEY, La. (ENN) — The Acadia Parish School Board has announced that they will begin implementing metal detectors in all public schools in their district.

Superintendent Carol Tall announced the new safety measure in a statement on Thursday of last week.

“In our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment, this letter is to inform you of a new safety measure being implemented at your child's school,” Tall stated. “The decision to implement metal detectors at school entrances is part of a broader effort to enhance school safety and ensure that all students, staff and visitors feel secure while on campus.”

The metal detectors will be installed “strategically,” the district says; places like entry points to the school, including main entrances and designated areas.

Al students, staff and visitors may be required to pass through the metal detectors upon entering the school premises. Additionally, the detectors could be used to enter athletic events and any other school activities.

“We understand that the introduction of metal detectors may raise questions and concerns among parents and students,” Tall continued. “Please be assured that the top priority of the Acadia Parish School Board is the safety of our students and this decision has been made with careful consideration.”

Superintendent Tall has proven to be committed to protecting the students and staff of Acadia Parish, implementing various security measures within the few months that she has been in charge.
